Bountiful Baskets

Healthy eating isn’t always easy and, usually, isn’t cheap. So, do you like the idea of fresh fruits and veggies for a great price? ME TOO! My family and I order a bountiful basket often. Check them out and see if there’s a pick up site in your area. 🙂

Thank you, Lord.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever. Psalm 118:29

Have you taken the time to stop today and be thankful? Do it right now. Take a minute to put aside all the business of life and be still, if just for a moment. Thank God for all you have been blessed with. If for nothing else, just take a moment to say “Father God, Thank you. Thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. Who died so that I may live.” Ok, go a head, I’ll wait.

I have plenty to be thankful for but I don’t always find myself being thankful to the one who deserves the thanks. Most of the time it’s “ok. That’s great. Now, what else do I need.” Join me today. Stop and count your blessings…

Treasure Hunt!

Have you ever been on a treasure hunt? I found myself smack in the middle of one the other day. Actually, myself and my son, which gave me an idea! Lightbulb! Kids love to read and be read to… at least mine does. BUT the older they get (or at least the older my son gets) the harder it is to find new and exciting ways to introduce reading. Yes, we do reading out loud and quiet reading time, outside reading time and bedtime reading time… yada yada yada. What if you could go on a treasure hunt for a book?

Have you ever taken your kids antique shopping? Well, last week my son and I went with my Mom and we found ourselves (or at least I did) on a book hunt! How fun and exciting to read about Columbus, Pirates, or The Adventures of Tom Sawyer from a book that you found on a “reading treasure hunt.” I highly recommend that you try it. It is an adventurous and exciting outing for you and your kids and if you find the right treasure… it can be cheaper than buying a new copy too!

Happy hunting!IMG_6794

Serving #1

Serve Him completely and willingly, because the Lord knows what is in everyone’s mind. He understands everything you think. If you go to him for help, you will get an answer.
1 Chronicles 28:9

Can I be a better servant? If you’re like me, you may find yourself thinking “I serve people all day long! I do laundry, dishes, moping, scrubbing, picking up toys, etc.” And the truth is we do. We are parents. I would like to encourage you (and myself) today to do it with an attitude of blessing. Show your children that serving others is important. Remind them that Matthew 25:40 says, “…’Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these… you did for me.”

I would encourage you to seek out opportunities in your church or in your community to help serve others now and then. I know that non of us have an abundance of “extra time” on our hands but if you look for it, God will provide an opportunity more often than you might think to share his love through the kindness of serving.

I am going to start reading Improving your Serve by Charles R. Swindoll as a jumpstart to being servant minded and start “Improving my Serve.” Happy Serving!

Advertising Overload

“Start your children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Do you remember that song from when we were kids… the one that went “be careful little eyes what you see… be careful little ears what you hear… be careful little feet where you go… for the Father up above is looking down with love. Oh, be careful little eyes what you see, etc?”

I’ve been reminded of this song lately because of the extreme amount of ads I’ve seen lately everywhere I am. We turn on our “Smart TV”… ADVERTISEMENT. Turn on the Roku… ADVERTISEMENT.  Even the services we pay for, like Hulu for example, stop several times to show us ads.  And don’t even get me started on the magazines by the checkout at grocery stores… oy vey!

How can we “be careful” about what our families see and hear with so much media and advertising at their fingertips? I’d say be more aware… be careful little eyes, ears, mouths, feet because there are little eyes, ears, mouths and feet growing up in your home. Be diligent… research if you can turn the adds off on your TV, Roku, Apple TV, etc because sometimes you just never know what’s going to show up.

For The Father up above is looking down in love… be careful.
